A sustainable approach for landscape, water and nature is a requirement for economic activities such as agriculture, tourism and other economic activities. But it is also a requirement for the liveability of the area. And the landscape also makes living and recreation in the area attractive.
On the other hand is a economicly viable rural area a requirement for a sustainable maintenance of that landscape. The farmers - the open space entrepreneurs - play an important role in the maintenance of nature and landscape and more and more offer a growing range of other activities like rural tourism, farm-education, local produce and providing care facilities. Viable villages are essential for maintaining the qualities of the area.
This strong coherence is the bottom line of the development strategy that the Local Action Group has made for the area Weidse Veenweiden for the period 2007 - 2013.
The main theme of the development strategy is improving the urban-rural relationship. All other themes must also contribute to the main theme. The other themes are:
